Looking for CCAR ocean data?

On July 24th, 2016 the CCAR ocean data server was discovered to be compromised and was taken offline.

Data access is returning.

The data access API is done. We are currently testing it out with a small set of users. We will post here when we are ready for public API access.

We have been working hard to bring back the CCAR sea surface height product and we are proud to say that we have resumed processing of SSH and Geostrophic velocity data in both global form and our Gulf of Mexico product.

It is our plan to roll out temporary access to this data via a simple HTTP based API next week. We will be following this up later this year with a new version of our previous site, updated for modern technologies such as API access, OPeNDAP, WMS, interactive mapping, and a mobile friendly client.

Stay tuned for details next week on how to get access to our data as we come back online.

It has been decided that due to other commitments and the processing server's outdated installation that it will not be brought back in entirety.

It is our intention to only bring back the CCAR sea surface height product. We do not expect to bring back image generation, but will be providing data via HTTP and/or OPeNDAP.

However, due to the complexity of migrating the processing to a new server architecture it may take a couple months before realtime SSH data processing resumes.

Recovery of the internal data storage server and attached workstation completed.

Inspection of logs confirms intrusion into the storage server (logs were deleted). Backups were made and both servers were wiped along with an attached workstation.

The data processing and hosting server was found to be compromised. It was suspected that it was being used for island hopping to our data storage server.

At this point the data storage server was under suspicion as well. Therefore, all our systems where shutdown until inspection on Monday.
