Welcome to the CCAR Global Historical Gridded SSH Data Viewer

This pages hosts our Historical Sea Surface Height Anomaly (SSHA) gridded data product. You can use this page to view our mesoscale SSHA data. You may also overlay SSH contours on GOES Sea Surface Temperature (SST), GHR SST, MODIS SST, or MODIS Ocean Chlorophyll Concentration (CHL) data. Note that the GHR SST has a four day lag.

The historical product is a mergeded solution of Geosat ERM, ERS-1, Topex/Poseidon, ERS-2, GFO, Envisat, Jason-1 Jason-2/OSTM and Cryosat-2 data products (typically GDR products). The data is typically processed with a 45 day lag and includes +/-10 days of Topex/Poseidon, Jason-1 and Jason-2/OSTM data centered about the date of interest along with +/-17 days of Geosat, ERS-1, ERS-2, GFO, Envisat and Cryosat-2 data centered about the date of interest. Note that the satellites included in the product varies depending on sampling availability. The historical product spans the date range of December 26, 1986 (Geosat) to present, but there is a data gap between October 6, 1989 and May 2, 1992 (ERS-1).
